Bronte Barratt was born on February 8, 1989. Barratt’s grandmother represented Australia in the Long Jump at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne.
Early Highlights
Barratt broke on to the International Scene in 2006 at the World Short Course Championships where she was part of the gold medal winning 4x200m Freestyle Relay. Individually, she won silver in the 400M Freestyle.
In 2007, Barratt broke the oldest Australian record in swimming when she defeated Tracey Wickham’s 29 year old record in the 400M Freestyle. Barratt lowered the mark from 4:06.28 to 4:05.93.
Olympics
Barratt swam both the 200M and 400M freestyles. She was a member of the 4x200M Freestyle Relay that won Gold, breaking the previous world record by six seconds.
At the 2012 Olympic Games, Barratt won a bronze medal in the 2ooM Freestyle.
In Rio, Barratt will swim the 200M Freestyle and the 4x200M Freestyle relay after finishing second at the Australian Trials.
2016 Rio Olympics
Barratt finished fifth in the finals of the 200M Free with a time of 1:55.25, missing the bronze medal by 0.33 seconds. In the 4X200M Free Relay, Barratt teamed with fellow Aussies, McKeon, Cook, and Neal to finish in 2nd place behind the Americans. Their time of 1:48.87 was 1.84 seconds behind the US team and 0.52 ahead of third place finishers, Canada.
