Background

Ashton Baumann was born on January 5th, 1993 in Southport, Australia. He currently lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and will represent Canada at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Ashton does have talented genes from his father, Alex Baumann, who won gold medals in the 200M and 400M IM’s at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

National/International Competition

At the 2011 Pan Am Games, Baumann made his international debut and made the finals in the 200M Breaststroke. He then swam in the 2013 Fina World Championships.

Unfortunately, his career has been defined by a series of injuries that kept him out of most major competitions. From 2013 to 2014, he suffered fractured ribs, and a fractured pubic bone. In 2015, he tore a cartilage and bruised a bone in his elbow. Instead of deciding to quit, he dedicated himself to this Olympic year, and it paid off.
