Biedermann Returns To Competition At German SC Championships

German world record Paul Biedermann will make his return to competition at the German Short Course Championships, which are being held in Wuppertal from November 21st-24th.

Biedermann was forced to forego the 2013 long course season, including the FINA World Championships in Barcelona due to an illness which he contracted in February. In September the German magazine Swim reported that the 200 and 400 freestyle world record holder’s training was going well under the watchful eye of coach Frank Embacher at the National Training Centre in Halle.

At the time Embacher pointed to Biedermann’s positive progression in a standard test set the coach employs and felt that his charge would reach 97% of his capabilities quite quickly, but that level was still not good enough to be competitive on the international stage.

A month has now passed and Henning Lambertz, the Head Coach of the German national team told a German news agency that Biedermann will return to competition at the German Short Course Championships, which is also the German qualifier for the European Short Course Championships in Henning, “Paul is currently at 97, 98 percent of its capacity. Wuppertal will be his first competition,” said Lambertz.
