In March Glenn Beringen and Brendan Keogh were both named Gold Coast GOLD coaches, seven months later Swimming Australia has announced that Beringen will take on a full time role with the organization as the Gold Coast Gold National Youth Coach.
Beringen won the silver medal at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in the 200 breaststroke and then went on to earn the same medal in the same event at the 1984 Olympics. He began his coaching career soon after retiring from the sport, eventually coaching both Petria Thomas and Sarah Ryan to Olympic gold medal winning performances.
Over the last few years he has had great success leading the Australian team to the top of the medal standings at both the 2013 and 2015 World Junior Championships. He was also the Head Coach of the Australian team at the 2014 Junior Pan Pacific Championships.
He will now have a key role in Swimming Australia’s Youth and Talent programs working with both athletes and coaches.
“I hope that I can bring the empathy I’ve had with other high performance swimmers over the years and help the next cohort of swimmers experience the same buzz of competing at an elite level.” Beringen said.
“I have an unbelievable passion for the sport and I’m looking forward to being able to help foster continuous development with our coaches and swimmers.”
“The only thing that makes a difference is what happens on the factory floor and I’ll be working with targeted programs across the country to help make sure their individual strategies lead to a desired performance outcome.”
