Numerous national records went down on night 5 of the 2024 European Championships. The first went down in the women’s 100 fly as Roos Vanotterdijk set a new record for Belgium. Another came from Kristyna Horska of Czech Republic. Justine Murdock broke a Lithuanian Record in the 100 back.
Roos Vanotterdijk swam to a new national record for Belgium in the women’s 100 butterfly as she won the European Title in a 57.47. That was faster than her previous national record of a 57.82 that she set in February 2023.

Vanotterdijk came home fast as that was the difference maker. Her record-breaking swim notably was also on the front end of her double tonight. She also swam in semifinals of the 100 backstroke and is the top seed heading into tomorrow night, another event that she holds the National Record in.
Kristyna Horska of Czech Republic also broke her own National Record as she swam a 2:23.60 in the women’s 200 breaststroke, marking her first time under the 2:24 mark as her previous best was a 2:24.28.

Horska was faster on every 50 except for her 2nd one today. The biggest difference was her final 50 coming home as she came home 0.39 seconds faster. She moves up from 20th to 14th in the World so far this season in the event.
Continuing with the records on the night was Justine Murdock of Lithuania who swam a 1:01.59 in the women’s 100 backstroke. That broke the old record of a 1:01.60 set by Ugne Mazutaityte in 2021.

Murdock was out slightly slower but had enough to come home and touch the wall 0.01 of a second ahead of record-time. The swim also was her 2nd national record of the week as she already set the 50 backstroke this week, breaking Mazutaityte’s record as well.
