Beata Nelson from Verona High School just southwest of Madison has crushed the National Age Group Record held by Janet Hu in the 100 yard fly at the Wisconsin Division I High School State Championship meet on Saturday.
Nelson swam a 52.06 to win the race. That broke the 100 fly State Championship Record, set by Brookfield East’s Sarah Wanezek in 54.55, and also broke Janet Hu’s National Age Group Record of 52.40 set in 2012.
For the 15-year old Nelson, her best time coming into this year’s championship season was a 53.36 at spring’s NCSA Junior National Championship meet.
Nelson just turned 15 within the last couple of months, and is already the fastest 15-16 in the history of this event. Maybe what’s even more impressive is that she also broke the Pool Record at the Wisconsin Natatorium, which is a collegiate pool.
Nelson switched her events a bit at this year’s meet after breaking State Records in the 50 free and 100 back last year as a freshman.
She trains her club swimming for the YMCA of Dane County Swim Team. For those curious, her best long course meters time in the 100 fly is a 1:02.82.

Beata Nelson has also won the 100 back in 53.19.
And has swum great relay splits of 22.00 in the 4X50 free and of 48.86 in the 4X100 free.
Another young talent at this meet was Katie Drabot, a sophomore, who has been very good last summer.
She has won the 200 free in 1.46.08 and just after the 200 IM in 1.59.89.

Bobo she’s 5′ 10″ or 11″ She doesn’t swim club in the summer, but she does summer league 🙂 she went 48.66 100 free relay split and 22.00 50 free 😮
