Ball State Keeps Distance Freestyler Kayla Molnar In State

Kayla Molnar from Mishawaka, Indiana has verbally committed to swim for Ball State University in Muncie beginning in the fall of 2017. She told SwimSwam, “I just really like the campus and the team and am really happy with my decision!!”

Molnar swims for Mishawaka’s Penn High School during high school season and for South Bend Swim Club during the rest of the year. She competed in the 200/500 free at the 2016 Indiana Girls Sectional Championships in South Bend, taking first and second place, respectively. She then went on to the IHSAA Girls Swimming/Diving Championship and finished 10th in the 500 free and 21st in the 200 free. She also split a 52.6 on Penn’s 11th-place 400 free relay.

In club swimming Molnar focuses on the longer end of the freestyle range. She competed at Indianapolis Sectionals in the spring of her sophomore year, swimming the 100/200/400m free and 100m fly. Molnar wrapped up her 2016 long course season with the Indiana Senior LCM State Championships in July; she competed in the 100/200/400/800/1500m free and 400m IM. Her best SCY times are:

  • 200 yard free- 1:51.87
  • 500 yard free- 4:57.90
  • 1000 yard free- 10:22.59
  • 1650 yard free- 17:50.85
