Just as Mitch Larkin and Mack Horton are among the young talent on the men’s team making waves for Swimming Australia, so is Brianna Throssell for the Aussie women, kicking off 2015 with a fresh new top time in the world. The 19-year-old Perth native just swam herself to number one in the world rankings in the women’s 200m butterfly, clocking a huge personal best of 2:06.60 during a time trial as part of the 2015 South Australia State Long Course Open Championships this past weekend.
Throssell’s new 2:06.60 mark passes the previous world’s #1 from USA’s Cammille Adams’ (2:07.61) earned at the BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series. In her effort, Throssell knocked a solid three seconds off of her previous personal best of 2:09.65, which earned her the bronze at 2014’s Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, a meet at which Throssell also claimed bronze in the 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly individual events.
Also during the SA State meet, Throssell finished first in the 200m freestyle (1:58.10), first in the 100m butterfly (59.94) and second in the 50m freestyle (25.74).
