France led the medal table yesterday with its two gold medals, but it is Australia who registers at the top after today’s session. Emily Seebohm and Mitch Larkin each won their 100m backstroke races to score the first individual gold medals for the Dolphins after the women’s 4×100 free relay clinched a group gold on the first day of competition.
Teammate Maddie Wilson also snagged a silver in that women’s 100m backstroke, so the Aussies are now tied with Great Britain in terms of total number of medals at five.
James Guy was responsible for Britain’s second gold medal after busting a fantastic swim in the men’s 200m freestyle race. And, Russia earned its first gold of the meet with Yulia Efimova‘s 100m breaststroke victory.
Katie Ledecky continued her winning streak, adding her second gold medal to the U.S. tally, while Matt Grevers added a bronze to the American collection to keep them in the top 5 in total medals.

If Katie Ledecky was an independent country the USA would be in 10th place with 2 bronze medals.
