Aussies Reveal Olympic Togs as Well as a New Deal with Speedo

At the end of last week the Australians revealed their new look for the 2016 Olympics in Rio. The Aussies will be racing in suits (or as many Down Under call them ‘togs’) that are primarily green and include a touch of gold with white boomerangs incorporated into the design.

Jack Packard, who will be swimming the 100 breaststroke in Rio, told the Herald Sun that it felt like Christmas in May, “It is surreal to see the Australian colours and get the uniform on it feels like a second Christmas,” said Packard.

There is also a piece of motivation hidden within the seems of the suit, which says ‘I AM READY’, “It is Pretty cool to have when you’re putting on the racing suit. It just reminds you you have worked really hard to get where you have,” Emma McKeon told the Herald Sun.

Australian Olympic team Chef de Mission Kitty Chiller told the press that the athletes were involved in the design process from start to finish.

Cameron McEvoy, who is a science buff, was excited because the suits had been tested in a water tunnel that is similar to the wind tunnel used to test the Mars Rover, “If that technology is good enough for NASA to put something on another planet than it has got to be good enough to make a swimsuit for athletes,” said McEvoy.

At the same time as the suits were unveiled in Southport Chiller also announced that Speedo and the AOC had signed a contract extension that will link the two up until 2028.
