All-American Hauss, who is a freestyle specialist, swims for Clovis High School and Clovis Swim Club. At the 2016 CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships, he earned gold as part of Clovis High School’s 200 and 400 free relays. Individually, Hauss placed sixth in the 200 yard free (1:38.62) and fifth in the 500 yard free (4:28.85).
He has a U.S. Open cut in the 200 meter freestyle, and a Winter Nationals cut in the 500 yard freestyle. He is best in the middle-distance freestyle events, but can easily stretch to both the sprint and distance events.
His best times are:
Event |
SCY |
LCM |
50 Free | 21.03(r) | 25.10 |
100 Free | 45.69(r) | 52.21 |
200 Free | 1:38.29 | 1:52.76 |
500 Free | 4:28.85 | 4:05.05 |
1650 Free | 16:10.12 | 16:59.09 |
Hauss’s 200 free and 500 free times would have been good enough for the C Final at the 2016 PAC 12 Championships, which would have been just outside of scoring range (PAC 12 Champs score only the A and B Finals). With further improvement during his final high school season, Hauss could provide an immediate impact to Arizona State’s roster.
Hauss is the sixth commitment for the Sun Devils’ men’s team, joining Cristian Musterait, Grant House, Jack Dalmolin, Joshua Vedder and Will Brenton.
