Wingate senior Armony Dumur started off the circle seeded heats of the 100 butterfly this morning determined to leave the session as the top seed. She left with the top time for the 100 fly touching at 52.44, and in the process broke Queens sophomore Hannah Peiffer‘s DII NCAA record set at last year’s championships. Dumur was out fast at those same championships in Lake Erie but could not hold off a charging Peiffer over the last 25 and would be forced to settle for silver.

Dumur was out around the same time she was at last years’ edition of these championships but came home a little over a second faster in the second 50 than she did in 2014. Easy to imagine Dumur training in North Carolina this year with the image of her getting walked down for the NCAA championship last year freshly pushing her throughout the season.
Last year’s bronze medalist Joyce Kwok (53.63) and Carson-Newman sophomore Natalie Burnett (53.94) rounded out the top 3 in the preliminaries. Peiffer will be on the outside looking in as she qualified 6th this morning, touching the wall at 54.64, but expect for the former record holder to give Dumur all she can handle from the outside lanes this evening.
