Iowa breaststroker/IMer Sydney Angell has verbally committed to swim for the Arkansas Razorbacks starting next fall. Angell announced her decision via Twitter on Monday night.
Angell swims for the Pirahnas Swim Club out of Bettendorf, Iowa. She also competes for Pleasant Valley High School, where she’s the reigning Iowa High School State champ in the 200 IM. Last year was her first season in the Iowa state meet; Angell moved to Iowa from Kansas. After her senior season, she’ll head south again to Arkansas to continue her career.
Angell looks like she’ll focus on both breaststrokes and the 200 IM at the college level, and though she won her state title in the IM, she probably projects better as a breaststroker in the NCAA. Her lifetime bests in both breaststrokes would have scored at last year’s SEC Championships.
Angell’s Top Times
- 100 breast: 1:02.51
- 200 breast: 2:14.94
- 200 IM: 2:03.25
The Razorbacks put Nikki Daniels into the A final of the 100 breast at SECs last year, but she’s now a senior and will be graduated by the time Angell starts her NCAA career.
