According to CADDA, the governing body for aquatic sports in Argentina, National Record holder Gaston Rodriguez has been suspended for a period of 15 months, dating retroactively to August 29th, 2011, after a positive test at last year’s Argentine Championships.
Rodriguez is the National Record holder in both the 200 fly (1:57.34) and 200 IM (2:01.03) in short-course-meters, and hit the pinnacle of his international career in 2009 when he placed 4th at the Durban stop of the FINA World Cup series.
It has not yet been made public what exactly Rodriguez tested positive for, but he is not accepting the suspension quietly. He is telling local media that there were several irregularities in the testing control, and that he would seek other avenues of appeal.
Rodriguez was also a 2004 Olympian for Argentina, where he won the first heat of the 200 fly and placed 29th overall.
