Another Gold by Hosszu Leads Hungary to Top of Day 4 Medal Table at 2014 World Short Course Championships

With one more gold medal for Katinka Hosszu, Hungary has extended their lead in the “golds first” medal table at the 2014 World Short Course Championships with one day to go.

That medal was Hosszu’s 6th overall and her 4th gold of the week so far, which combines with two chipped in by the Hungarian men (Daniel Gyurta in the 200 breast, Peter Bernek in the 400 free) to give the country its total of 6.

Spain still sits in 2nd with 4 golds and 4 total medals: a load carried entirely by Mireia Belmonte-Garcia.

The Americans meanwhile are showing off good depth with 13 total medals, but so far having earned only two golds, both in relays, they are out of reach of finishing atop this medals stand.

Hosszu still has an entry in the 200 free, where she’s the #2 seed, and a finals swim in the 100 fly left for Sunday’s competition. It seems unlikely at this point that anybody will catch Hungary for the top of the medals table, given the lead, the events that remain, and who is expected to contend in those events.
