This morning, NCAP swimmer Andrew Seliskar broke his own National Age Group Record in the 100 breaststroke with a 53.33. In finals, he took it even lower, swimming a 53.26 at the Potomac Valley Swimming Junior/Senior Championships to clear the 15-16 100 breaststroke NAG Record for the 5th time this season.
Seliskar Prelims: 24.90 – 28.43: 53.33
Seliskar Finals: 25.08 – 28.18: 53.26
In his finals swim, Seliskar didn’t go out quite as fast, but he did close very well. Sometimes, we’ll see the opposite after a prelims record-breaking swim, with an athlete pushing themselves early in a race to try and get their own record. He showed great discipline here, though, to control his speed on the front-half and burst through to the finish.
Among other notable swims in the finals session:
- 14-year old Kylie Jordan and 13-year old Isabella Rongione touched with identical splits at the 150 yard mark of the 200 free. Jordan was just a tiny bit better on that last 50 and won in 1:50.17. Rongione was a 1:50.20, which is her best time by a full second. This is on the lower end of her primary events, but take that as a forewarning of a potentially big swim in the 500 later in the meet (perhaps somewhere sub-4:46).
- 13-year old Cassidy Bayer won the 100 fly in 53.70 to just hold-off Machine Aquatics’ Hellen Moffitt in the senior division. She destroyed the NAG Record books for 11-12’s, and despite being another swimmer on the bottom half of her age group, she’s now tied for 5th all-time among 13-14’s with Elaine Breeden and Katie McLaughlin.
- George Mason post-grad Ashley Danner won both the 100 breast (1:01.52) and 400 IM (4:16.52). Rongione was 2nd in that 400 IM in 4:22.35
These young swimmers from this part of USA are so talented. And each year now there’s 1 or 2 new phenoms. Congrats to them! I repeat it’s the MP generation.
Holy crap. Move over Conger..1:36 in the 2free and 418 in the 500 on top of all of his other great swims AND Nag breaststroke times. Best of all, he is not 18, not 17 BUT 16 years old!
These age group times are getting insane! Unbelieveable……………
