Andrew Seliskar Breaks 15-16 NAG 100 Breast Record for 4th Time

Another meet, and another National Age Group Record from the folks at the mega-team NCAP in the Washington D.C. area. The latest came from Andrew Seliskar at the Patomac Valley Short Course Senior Championship meet at George Mason University.

Seliskar was a 53.33 in prelims of the 100 breaststroke, which betters his own record of 54.09 set just a month ago at the Virginia AAA Northern Region Championships.

Though he’s only 16, Seliskar will lead the way into the final of the senior event, ahead of much older swimmers like 25-year old teammate Zach Hayden (54.27) and 26-year old Matthew Fedderly from Snow Swimming (57.12).

This is now the 4th time that Seliskar has broken this record in the last 4 months; the mark coming into this season belonged to Cody Miller at 54.38 from 2008. Miller has gone on to become a 6-time individual Big Ten breaststroke champion in three seasons at Indiana.

This time also would have been a National High School Record were it swum in a high school meet, though Seliskar will have to wait until next year to achieve that.

(Note: as the meet program points out, this pool is not certified as it has a movable bulkhead at one end, so the record will be pending official measurement per USA Swimming rules.)

Seliskar is only a high school sophomore, but already has times that will have college programs drooling. Aside from the fact that a few-straight classes without a lot of breaststroke depth have left many top college teams scrambling for their new stars, Seliskar is much, much more than just a breaststroker. His other times:

  • 45.0 in the 100 free
  • a 1:40.2 in the 200 free
  • a 47.9 in the 100 fly
  • a 1:45.4 in the 200 fly
  • a 1:45.2 in the 200 IM

Without any signs of slowing down, he’s already got times that would put him on the verge of NCAA Division I Championship qualifying.

Other notable swims out of prelims include a 1:01.20 from George Mason post-grad Ashley Danner, a former NCAA All-American in the event. She’s also the top seed in the 500 IM in 4:19.30, ahead of 13-year old Isabella Rongione in 4:25.51.

Another NAG Record holder, NCAP’s Cassidy Bayer, just 13-years old, swam a 55.40 for the second seed in the 100 fly (her best time is exactly a full second faster).
