Andrew Abruzzo Swims Age-Group Leading Time At Middle Atlantic LC Sr. Championships

Today swimmers took to Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. for the Middle Atlantic LC Sr. Championships.

In the women’s 200m fly 17-year-old Valeria Yoshimura came home with the win in 2:18.47 dropping over two seconds from her prelim swim. Finishing behind her was Karlee Carminati in 2:19.01. The 15-year-old swimmer had an amazing improvement dropping five seconds from her prelim swim. The 2:19.01 was a best time for her.

Michael Thomas was the winner of the men’s 200m fly in a swift 2:03.19. Thomas won the race finishing over two seconds ahead of second place finisher Stergios Dikos who threw down a 2:05.60 to secure the silver. Behind Dikos was Bradley Gibble with a time of 2:07.89.

Morgan Scott had what was close to a start-to-finish win in the women’s 100m freestyle, holding off all advances from Quinn Macmillan and Siena Salvaggio to earn herself the gold. At the 50, Scott was a27.64, second behind sixth place finisher Shannon McKernan. She managed to throw down a solid second 50 to maintain her lead over second and third place finishers Macmillan and Salvaggio, getting her hand on the wall in 57.36 for the gold. Macmillan was second in 57.90, Salvaggio third in 57.91.

The men’s 100m freestyle was all about Shane Ryan. Ryan was the only swimmer tonight to break the 50-second barrier, and he did so with a 49.97. Robert Bantley finished second behind Ryan way back in 51.22. Matthew Stasiunas rounded out the top three with a 51.46. Shane Ryan just came off a fantastic season with Penn State.

Seventeen-year-old Madison Visco was the winner of the women’s 400m freestyle with a quick 4:18.65. Megan Siverling finished behind her in 4:22.81 followed by Karlee Carminati in 4:24.16.

The men’s 400m freestyle final was taken by 14-year-old Andrew Abruzzo. Abruzzo came close to dipping under the four minute barrier with a 4:00.58. At the 350m mark, Abruzzo was behind Matthew Stasiunas (who came second in the 100m freestyle earlier tonight),but managed to pass him coming home by swimming a 28.50 last 50. Abruzzo was about two-and-a-half seconds shy of Evan Pinion’s 13-14-year-old age 400m freestyle age-group record from 2009. That time tonight for Abruzzo was a personal best by over 10 seconds.

With that time Abruzzo is currently the top ranked 14-year-old in the United States in the 400m freestyle.

Impressive meet for Andrew Abruzzo so far.
He won the 800 free in 8.15.84. His PB was 8.45.26 before the meet.
2nd 13/14 US performer all-time in that event behind Evan Pinion and just ahead of MP.
And he won the 400 free in 4.00.58. His PB was 4.11.26 before the meet.
He’s now the 4th 13/14 US performer all-time in that event behind Evan Pinion, MP and Nick Silverthorn.
Congrats!

Someone at the meet reading this tell the timing table to get the real time results working. We have exposure on this site with the age group times which MA would like to have and let’s show MA can do it right. This is something not to be ignored.

The Hy-tek meet result format is so 2000’s.
Meet mobile is more 2010s, but still doesn’t have all meets, can only be accessed via smart phone, and requires loading a new page to look at every event/split.

I feel like there is a real opportunity out there for an entrepreneuring swimmer-geek to create a universally-used results template that is convenient AND reliable. (Swimswam.com, I’m looking at you)

Yes, it’s not the prettiest interface… but it is functional and, as a meet manager, very easy to use. The entire Hy-tek infrastructure is… interesting… but no one else (to my knowledge has managed to make significant penetration in the market yet. It will happen, as Netscape and then IE gave way to Chrome. But it’s going to be a while.
