Finn Nadel of Clive, IA, has announced his decision to swim for Amherst College beginning in the fall of 2022. Nadel is a senior at Valley High School and swims year-round with Central Iowa Aquatics.
I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Amherst College! I’d like to give the biggest thanks to my coaches and teammates at both Central Iowa Aquatics and Valley High School, as well as my friends and family for their unending support. A huge thank you also to the Amherst coaches for this amazing opportunity. Go Mammoths!
He is a 2021 Winter Junior Nationals qualifier. In December, the breaststroke specialist attended the championship meet in Austin, TX. He swam the 100 and 200 breast, finishing 69th and 101st, respectively. Nadel went a personal best time of 56.84 in the 100 breast and swam a 2:08.97 in the 200 breast, just two seconds off his best time.
In February, Nadel competed at the Iowa HS State Championship. The Valley High School junior finished 4th in the 100 breast, clocking in at 57.57. At the time, this was a new PB for him. He also swam the 200 IM, powering home in 1:59.23 for a 13th place finish. Finally, he swam the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay, splitting a 50 time of 25.87.
Top SCY Times:
- 50 breast – 26.60
- 100 breast – 56.84
- 200 breast – 2:06.85
Nadel would have earned a spot in the A-final of the 100 breast and spots in the B-finals of the 50 and 200 breast at the 2020 conference meet. He would have been Amherst’s second-fastest 50 and 100 breaststroker during the 2019-2020 season behind Sean Mebust. Mebust graduated in the spring of 2020, leaving his name on the school record board in the 100 and 200 breast.
Nadel will be joining Ethan Van de Water, Michael Jang, and Jack D’Alessandro as a member of the Mammoths’ class of 2026.
Amherst College is a private liberal arts school in Amherst, Massachusetts. The Mammoths compete at the Division III level in the NESCAC. Since 2017, the Amherst College men’s team has consistently finished within the top 3 at the New England Small Collegiate Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships.
At the 2020 championship meet, Amherst finished third out of 11 teams. Last year, the conference elected to cancel all winter championship events due to COVID-19. The 2022 NESCAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships are scheduled for February 17 to February 20.
