The postponed Olympic Games are set to kick-off on July 23rd, which means the world’s biggest sporting competition is drawing nearer and nearer. This month kicks off Trials season in many nations, with either a one-shot qualification meet taking place, or at least the primary selection opportunity.
To help you sort through the craziness that’s about to unfold, we’ll give you the key links for each of the high-profile meets taking place in the upcoming week. As a reminder, you can review the entire month of April’s hectic schedule in our high-level international meets post here.

Have you got link to start lists/results yet for British Selection Trials? I’ve looked and can’t find it yet
Would be interesting to know how the british officals came up with the standards?
In some events their standards are faster than the german standards, but in other events (men’s 200 free/400 free/100 back/100 fly, women’s 200 free/100 back/100 fly/200 fly) they are slower than the german standards.
Any pointers on who to watch closely for the German trials?
400 Free should be interesting with Wellbrock, Mühlleitner and Märtens having all been under the cut, but only 2 making the team.
Will also be interesting to see if Wellbrock ends up deciding to swim it in Tokyo with Open water + 800 + 1500.already on his schedule. His 3:44.3 puts him not so far away from territory where he could actually be competitive tho.
It’s also important to note that this meet in Berlin isn’t actually a “trials” meet as in the only opportunity to qualify. The qualifying procedure solely depends on who swims the fastest this entire month,
I thought that Mühlleitner should feel safe (thinking that Wellbrock will drop it anyways), but maybe he will try to be faster than Märtens (3:45.2) to be safe. I think Mühlleitner will be top 6 in the 200 free anyways, so he should be nominated for the relay and if Wellbrock won’t swim the 400 free, Mühlleitner can “easily” replace him (being there anyways for the relay).
Just wondering: Is Germany actually taking 6 swimmers per relay? I thought in the past they just took the 4 fastest. While in Gwangju, for instance, they did opt for Wierling instead of Kunert in the 4×2, they both qualified as a top 4 swimmer (Wierling for the 4×1, Kunert 4×2) however.

Some things i will be interested to see:
Men:
50 free: Will Selin (who was way off last weekend) or Wierling get the standard (unlikely)?
100 free: Will Wierling (48.8 so far this season), Salchow (48.7 so far this season) or Friese (49.0 so far this season) improve on their times? Who will qualify for the relay?
200 free: Will any out of Zellmann/Heidtmann/Märtens improve on their times and will Miroslaw bounce back after having a pretty bad weekend? Who will qualify for the relay?
800/1500 free: Will Schwarz show up and be in shape to get the standard and will Märtens/Mühlleitner try to get the 800 free… Read more »

hopefully Sven Schwarz could be a contender!
I read that too. Hopefully he can recover and can profit from training in the US.
I have no idea what to expect from Schwarz. Not sure if him not having shown anything so far this year is a good sign …
Last year Schwarz had very nice 400 free speed. If you would have asked me in 2019 whether he will qualify in the 800/1500 free, i would definitely have said yes, but this year it will be much more difficult, even if he can considerably improve on his PB’s. I absolutely don’t see him getting down to 14:49 in the 1500 free, so the 800 free might be his only shot and even in the 800… Read more »
Excited to see what Abbie Wood can throw down at Trials. Judging by the way she swum in the ISL, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some new PBs swum by her. Also very interesting to see her entered in the 100 breast. Interested to see what sort of time she can produce (assuming she doesn’t drop the event) as I don’t think she’d enter if she didn’t think she had a shot at winning.
Also very excited to see if Wild and Dawson improve on their backstroke times as well as Luke Greenbank and James Guy who have all looked really decent so far this season.
The 200 breast should be great between Wood, Renshaw, and Ulyett.
Agreed! Should be one of the races of the meets and would be a tad disappointed if that national record of 2:22.08 didn’t go down.
Does anybody know the current situation with Lewis Burras?
The pre-selected athletes will most likely only partially taper, but I wonder how many other big names will be tempted to do the same with the discretionary powers at British Swimming’s disposal? Here’s to some fast swimming – Good luck to all those lucky enough to be racing.

True! Luckily though the 50 will not be swum at the Olympics so unless a miracle happens there is no chance of him qualifying for Tokyo.
PS obviously I want the best for him. I just want to see British Swimming’s favourite discretionary picks backfire on them.
