Alexander Santana Gives Verbal Commitment to Boston College

A month after his brother, Brendan Santana, made his college choice with a verbal to Notre Dame, Alexander Santana has announced his intention to swim for Boston College in 2017-18.

“I chose Boston College because of the amazing coaches and the great atmosphere within the team. I am so excited to be swimming for Boston College. Go eagles!”

Santana is a senior at University City High School in San Diego, California, and the 2016 CIF-San Diego Section Division II champion in the 500 free. He also placed sixth in the 200 free (1:43.58) and led off University City’s 200 medley relay (25.33) and 400 free relay (47.16). Santana went on to the California State Meet and placed 10th in the 500 with a personal-best 4:31.22.

Santana swims year-round with Pacific Swim. He specializes primarily in distance freestyle events, and wrapped up his long course season competing in the 200/400/800m freestyles at Stanford Futures. His best times are:

  • 200 free – 1:43.11
  • 500 free – 4:31.22
  • 1000 free – 9:40.12
  • 1650 free – 16:14.11
