17-year-old Alex Shackell just finished what has been, in her words, the best month of her life.
This whirlwind started when she made the US Olympic team alongside her brother, Aaron Shackell, in their hometown of Indianapolis. After experiencing training camp in beautiful Croatia with Team USA, Shackell headed to Paris, where she made her first individual Olympic final and swam on two relays that earned her gold and silver medals.
Once the Games concluded, Shackell returned home to spend time with family, be around her friends, and relax for a week before embarking on her next big chapter: senior year of high school.

From her interview with the revolution guy, she seems to be more focused on LCM golds after this Olympics. Not saying she’ll skip college but she didn’t mention a school or NCAAs
It’s amazing that we seem to have 1 high school medalist every games.
But I don’t think we did in 2016
Where was she living/ training before moving to Carmel?
oh I didn’t realize she was the prelims butterflyer but it makes sense that all of the US butterflyers are so versatile
it’d be funny if Kate Douglass were a top sprint breaststroker, like Regan-Kate-Gretchen-Torri could have the 4×100 medley world record but they’d also probably be the best 4×100 butterfly medley relay team too
Carmel number one for Indiana. Not just swimming but in the job market since most of them work for Lilly in biotech in Indianapolis. In fact all ethnic groups are moving to Carmel which means it gives a pretty good standard of living compared to most of Indiana. Information from the Brookings institute on Hamiton County Indiana.
Always random demographic facts from Cynthia Curran lol.
Remember way back in the day when she had LA ’28 in her insta bio. Pleasant surprise for her making it 4 years early!
She seems super sweet and she shouid be ecstatic about her first Olympics! She rocked all of it!! And yes USA fans will show out in LA!
Who downvoted this?
Perpetually unhappy persons. She’s 17, for heaven’s sake. Lighten up.
