Carmel Swim Club’s Alex Shackell dropped nearly three tenths off her personal best time in the women’s 100 butterfly during Thursday’s preliminary session at the Greensboro site of the 2021 Summer Championships, moving up to 15th all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group.
Shackell, 14, produced a time of 1:00.34 in the event, lowering her previous best of 1:00.63 set in May at the MAC North Texas Senior Meet in Mansfield, TX.
That swim had ranked her 24th in age group history, and her clocking Thursday morning in Greensboro sees her overtake some notable names in the all-time rankings, including 2020 Olympic medalists Katie McLaughlin (1:00.39) and Regan Smith (1:00.43).
