The University of Alabama scored a big coup when they received a verbal commitment from homegrown Andrey Tretyakov, the state record-holder in the 200y IM and 100y butterfly. Tretyakov, who swims for Bob Jones High School and Madison Swimming Association in Madison, Alabama, told SwimSwam:
“I committed to the University Of Alabama because when I visited them, I felt a strong sense of family and unity. Each swimmer on the team pushes one another with the help of an outstanding and knowledgeable coaching staff. They pursue to be the best in not only the pool, but in their academics as well. The University of Alabama has so much to offer academically and athletically so I’m thrilled to be part of the Crimson Tide family and I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life with them.”
Tretyakov is an Olympic Trials qualifier in the 100m butterfly, who also excels in sprint free and breaststroke. At the 2015 AHSAA Swimming and Diving Championships last December, he won the 200 IM (1:49.88) and the 100 fly (48.07), setting new AHSAA records in each event. He also split a 21.88 fly on Bob Jones’ medley relay and a 20.78 on the 200 free relay to help Bob Jones win the Boys Class 6A-7A state title. He swam the 50m free, 100m breast, and 100m fly at 2016 Speedo Summer Junior Nationals and placed 12th in the latter.
Tretyakov’s top times are:
SCY | LCM | |
50 free | 21.33 | 24.41 |
100 free | 47.25 | 54.65 |
100 breast | 56.35 | 1:06.26 |
200 breast | 2:06.88 | |
100 fly | 48.07 | 54.78 |
200 fly | 1:49.85 | 2:08.56 |
200 IM | 1:49.88 | 2:14.25 |
While just outside scoring position in the 200 fly, 200 IM and freestyles, Tretyakov would have scored points for the Crimson Tide in the 100 fly at 2016 SEC Championships. He joins Andrew Shea, also of Madison Swimming Association, in the Alabama class of 2021.
