The Akron women’s swimming and diving team will begin its quest for a fourth straight MAC Championship as it heads to Oxford, Ohio for the 2017 MAC Championships that will be held from Wednesday, Feb. 22 through Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center on the campus of Miami (Ohio).
Action begins on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. with the 200 medley relay, an event in which the Zips broke the MAC record at last year’s championships.
On the final three days of competition, preliminaries will begin at 11 a.m. and finals will start at 7 p.m. with ESPN3 providing coverage of the finals.
In 2016, Akron tallied a MAC record 773.50 points over the four-day event on the strength of three relay wins, five individual titles, and 19 top three finishes.
Head coach Brian Peresie was named the MAC Coach of the Year for the fourth straight year and the Zips received four other individual awards. Madison Myers (Akron, Ohio) was the recipient of the MAC’s Most Outstanding Swimmer and Freshman Swimmer of the Year honors.
The Zips were last in action on Jan. 27-Jan. 28 when it took first place in all 20 events as part of a double dual meet win over Bowling Green and Youngstown State at Ocasek Natatorium.
At the meet, Akron broke a pair of MAC records in the 400 medley relay and the 100 backstroke.
On the season, the Zips claimed five dual meet victories and took home titles at the Magnus Cup Invitational and the Zippy Invitational.
