400 IM

1. Franziska Wohlert 4:18.04
2. Holly Schuster 4:20.72

Wohlert of Bowling Green was last year’s runner behind behind 2015 senior Spencer Rodriguez, this year, she had nothing in her way and dominated the event, winning in a personal best time and new school record time of 4:18.04. Schuster also improved on her results from last year in this event, 2015 she finished 5th in 4:21.87, this year she dropped a over a second and moved up to the 2nd place spot.

100 Fly

3. Sadie Fazekas 53.83

The A final of the 100 fly was a very fast race, with the top 6 of the 8 finishers clocking in in NCAA ‘B-cuts’. At the 2015 championships, it was Ferguson who took the victory in 53.41 and Seiler was runner up with 53.62. This year both seniors improved their times, but it was Seiler of Akron who got the victory. Ferguson’s teammate Lauren Dawson finished 3rd last year, but this year fell short, placing 6th in 54.31. Eastern Michigan’s Carly Jackson who just missed out on the A final after her preliminaries swim, also posted a NCAA ‘B-cut’ time of 54.19, winning the B final in a time that would have placed her in the top 5 of the A final.

200 Free

2. Victoria Griffin 1:48.42
3. Megan Burns 1:48.98

500 free runner up Detro redeemed her self from last years 4th place finish in this event, to win the whole thing in a NCAA ‘B-cut’ time of 1:47.39. Jess Powers of Buffalo, who was the champion in the 500 free this year and the 200 free last year, was over a second off of her best time, and finished 6th in the A final.

100 Breast

1. Delaney Duncan 59.46
2. Sammy Richart 1:00.54
3. Daniela Carrillo 1:00.57

The 100 breast was another close race, with all 8 A finalist finishing in NCAA ‘B-cut’ times. Eastern Michigan took another first place finish for the night, when Duncan finished the 100 breast more than a second ahead of the field and in a new meet record time of 59.46. Last years champion Stephanie Lemire and runner up Hannah Raspopovich fell short this year and finished 6th and 4th respectively.

100 Back

The 100 back was another close event where all A finalist swam NCAA ‘B-cuts’. Akron’s Szynal posted an impressive time in the final, finishing just hundredths of a second shy of Ferguson’s record of 53.10. Last year it was Ferguson who went home with the title and Szynal who was runner up, but this year, Szynal dropped more than a second off of her time to get the win.

400 Medley Relay

3. Miami University (Ohio) 3:41.04

Eastern Michigan took its first relay victory of the meet, when the A team of Alexis Mitcheltree (53.55), Duncan (1:00.18), Jackson (53.79) and Mary Kate Maclean (49.65) out touched defending champions, Akron’s A team of Szynal (53.92), Raspopovich (1:01.61), Seiler (52.55) and Ragen Engel (49.90).
