Air Force’s Abby Turner Headlines Mountain West Swim & Dive Weekly Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force junior Abby Turner has been named the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week. Wyoming’s Alicia Gonzalez has been named the MW Diver of the Week and teammate Tara Joyce has been selected as the MW Swim & Dive Freshman of the Week.

SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

ABBY TURNER, AIR FORCE

Junior, Wheeling, West Virginia / Wheeling Park HS

  • Helped the Falcons to two second-place finishes on the week against Denver and Wyoming.
  • The junior placed in the top two across seven events, including three individual races.
  • Against Denver, posted three second-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay (1:44.23), 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.02) and the 50-yard free (23.96).
  • Against the Cowgirls, posted two individual wins in the 50-yard free with a time of 23.68 and in the 100-yard free, clocking a time of 51.98.
  • In the two relays against Wyoming, the junior swam the last leg of the winning 200-yard medley with a time of 1:42.80 and the 400-yard free with a runner-up time of 3:30.74.

DIVER OF THE WEEK

ALICIA GONZALEZ, WYOMING

Sophomore, Canary Islands, Spain / Salesianos School

  • Won both the 3-meter and 1-meter dives for the Cowgirls at the Air Force meet with a combined score of 566.63, helping Wyoming earn the victory over the Falcons.
  • In the 3-meter, she logged a first-place score of 297.90.
  • In the 1-meter, she placed first with a score of 268.73.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

TARA JOYCE, WYOMING

Swimmer, Cody, Wyoming / Cody HS

  • Assisted the Brown and Gold to a win over in Conference opponent, Air Force, with four top-three performances.
  • Won the 200-yard free with a season-best time of 1:51.52, adjusted for altitude.
  • In the 500-yard free, registered a second-place finish with a time of 5:13.29, adjusted for altitude.
  • Helped the Cowgirls to two top-three relay finishes in the 400-yard free relay with a winning time of 3:28.37 and in the 200-yard medley, posting a third-place time of 1:47.26.
