The Air Force men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams open the 2016-17 season at the annual Intermountain Shootout, hosted by Colorado Mesa, Oct. 7-8, in Grand Junction, Colo.
The men’s team is coming off of its first ever conference championship after winning the 2016 Western Athletic Conference title with 771 points, 81 points ahead of second place Wyoming. The Falcons were 15-1 in dual meets last season, concluding the team’s best season in school history. Senior Andrew Faciszewski returns after winning the WAC title in the 1650 free. Swimming coach Rob Clayton and diving coach Stan Curnow both earned WAC Coach of the Year honors last season as Air Force posted 51 additions to the individual Academy all-time top 10 times. The Falcons also set seven new individual school records and three new relay school records.
The women’s team is coming off a 14-9 dual meet season after claiming is first ever NCAA Division I All-American. Senior Genevieve Miller returns as the three-time Mountain West champion in both the 500 and 1650 free. She earned All-American honors in both events last season and holds the school and conference records in both events. Miller placed 10th in the 1650 free and 13th in the 500 free at the NCAA Championships.
The men’s and women’s teams will open the home schedule on Saturday, Oct. 22, against Colorado Mines, at the Cadet Natatorium.
