University of East London stand-out swimmer, Aimee Willmott, has been named 2015’s British University & College Sports (BUCS) Sports Woman of the Year. The 22-year old Willmott has significant international experience, resulting in quite the medal collection.
Willmott snagged silver medals in the 200m butterfly and 400m IM events at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, as well as one bronze as a member of the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay team. She also earned a bronze in the 400m IM event at last year’s European Championships.
Additionally, Willmott claimed three gold medals at the British Universities and College Sports long course championships in February of this year, standing atop the podium in the 400m IM, 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly. Willmott set brand new championships record times in the latter two events.
Willmott is currently ranked 3rd in the world in teh 400m IM event with the 4:33.66 she clocked at this year’s British Nationals. That time earned her a silver behind teammate Hannah Miley at the championship meet.

Willmott will be representing the UK in Kazan in just a couple of weeks, swimming the 400m IM at the 2015 FINA World Championships.
