UPDATE: USA Swimming Releases Second Version of Nationals Psych Sheets on August 1

USA Swimming has released a second version of the psych sheets for the 2014 Senior National Championships on Friday. This is unlikely to be the last update, but there were enough changes to make it worth keeping track.

See the most current version here.

No, Michael Phelps is still not entered in the 200 free. Here’s the swimmers that do have schedule changes, however.

  • Ohio State sophomore to be Lindsey Clary has added two swims. She’s still 18 even this late into the summer, so unlike most of her college teammates, she’s allowed bonus entries. She started with an entry in the women’s 400 free, where her best is 4:19.39. In addition, she’s picked up a swim in the women’s 800 free. Clary’s qualifying time is technically in the 1500 free, but in the distance events, USA Swimming allows cross-qualification between the 800 and the 1500.
  • Georgia National teamer Melanie Margalis dropped the 50 breaststroke and added the 100 breaststroke. We’ll assume that this was just an error in entry – the 50 breaststroke comes on the same day as the 400 IM, which is one of Margalis’ primary races, and the 100 breaststroke is on day 4 – where Margalis doesn’t have another event. She’s also much better as the breaststrokes get longer, although her 100 has made big leaps over the last 18 months. She had been the 14th seed in the 50 breast (those seeds are based on 100 meter times) and will become the 17th seed in the 100 breaststroke.
  • USC’s Henriette Stenkvist dropped from the meet. One of our commenters asked about this; Stenkvist moved to the United States when she was 10. She was born to an American father of Swedish descent and a Swedish mother, and so while she’s a dual citizen, she’s currently choosing to represent Sweden, meaning she’s not eligible for U.S. Nationals. Chalk it up to a simple administrative oversight. She was in the 200 free, 200 back, 50 back, 400 free, 100 back.
  • Twin 16-year old brothers Ludovico and Nazareno Boscaino from the Clearwater Aquatic Team. They moved to the United States from Italy at age 7; USA Swimming has not yet responded to a request for comment on their competition nationalities, but they are asterisked as internationals on the psych sheets.

Update: USA Swimming has confirmed that the Boscainos aren’t eligible for Nationals, so on the next update they will be removed again.

Those were the changes that were on this first re-release. We’ll keep our readers posted on the run-up to Wednesday’s meet start if anything else changes.

Or maybe Stenkvist is out because she recently underwent surgery on her femur……….

Did I come just to check if Phelps was entered in the 2 free?

Yes, and thank you for answering that question.

Both the men’s and women’s 1500m freestyle events list some swimmers entered with 800 times as seeded ahead of the 1500 times.
