The Speedo Sectional in Shenandoah, Texas closed with a bang, as the final individual race, the men’s 50 free, came down to fingernails between Alexander Hancock and Kyle Troskot.
Hancock, a New Zealander who competes for Auburn and Blue Tide Aquatics, wound up nipping Texas A&M Aggie Troskot for the win, 23.23 to 23.24. That’s a season-best for Hancock and the best time from Troskot in over a month.
The women’s 50 free was slightly less suspenseful, with Dallas Mustangs 20-year-old Claire Brandt running away with things in 26.47. Brandt adds that to wins in both backstrokes over the weekend.
The other event of the night was the 200 IM. For the women, it was Pearland Aquatics 15-year-old Jaden Bellina who topped the field in 2:19.86. That constituted a drop of over three-and-a-half seconds for Bellina who’s had a great meet. Bellina put together top-3 finishes in the 200 fly and 400 IM prior to this win.
First Colony’s Antoine Marc went 2:06.85 to pick up the men’s win. That time for the Texas A&M Aggie was about a half-second faster than Blue Tide’s Jordan Jones.

At the Indiana LC age group championships this week, 13-year-old Emily Weiss had dropped a lot of time in the 100 breast 3 days ago. From 1.18.40 to 1.11.19! And she did it again in the 200 breast yesterday, from 2.53.47 to 2.39.56! Definitely a girl to watch in the future.
