Arizona State Hires Greg Earhart as New Associate Head Coach

Arizona State has hired Greg Earhart as their new associate head coach for men’s and women’s swimming, luring him away from 12 years at Division III Carthage College.

“It was a really difficult decision because I love the current team at Carthage and the school has done so much for me,” Earhart said. ” I could have easily retired there, but I’m leaving the program in a very good position.”

“Since making the decision, I’ve been getting more and more excited every day.  Ask anyone about Dorsey and they’ll tell you she is one of the best coaches in the country.  Take her, Mark, Dan and Shane and we can build more than a winning program.  Anyone who knows me, knows my love of the sport and at ASU we can be a model program – one that can win, one that can support itself and one that can make our administration, alumni, parents, and Arizona swimming community can be proud of.”

Earhart is best known in college circles as one of the partners behind the collegeswimming.com website, but he has also amassed an impressive 73-37 dual meet record as the head coach at Carthage and five  times was bestowed the honor of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year (including two co-awards). In 2014, they finished 3rd out of 7 teams at the conference championship meet.

Among a laundry-list of wards includes being the youngest-ever recipient of the National Collegiate and Scholastic Swimming Trophy, which has been awarded by the CSCAA for roughly 50 years.

With Dorsey Tierney-Walker as the program’s head coach, the Arizona State men finished 6th and the Arizona State women were 7th at the Pac-12 Championships.

Earhart was formerly Tierney-Walker’s assistant at Indiana.

A more accurate representation of ASU’s performance under Tierney-Walker would note that the men finished 23rd at NCAAs, with all 28 points being scored by a diver. The women finished 41st at NCAA, with all 8 points being scored by a diver. I believe the 6th and 7th place finishes must have been at Pac-12s?

Actually, Greg was Dorsey’s assistant at Indiana.
