World Records fall at Sarasota Masters Bumpy Jones Classic

Multiple world records were broken* at the Bumpy Jones Classic, held at the Selby Aquatic Center in Sarasota, Fla., June 13-15, 2014. This long course meet has been held since the 1970s and was renamed in 2006 to honor our resident Olympian, Burwell Jones, who has been a driving force in Masters Swimming since its inception.

Jack Groselle, 59 (FINA 60) broke two individual world records and was also part of two world record setting relays for the Sarasota Y Sharks Masters.

Jack’s individual records set in the Men’s 60-64 age group:
200-meter freestyle: Time: 2:10.00. Broke the existing record of Jim McConica, Ventura Masters, 2:12.57, set in 2010
100-meter freestyle: Time 57.79. Broke the existing record of Richard Abrahams, Colorado Masters, 58.61, set in 2005.
The Sarasota Y Sharks Masters also set two new relay World Records both in the 240+ age group:
Men’s 800 freestyle relay: Jack Groselle, Rick Walker, Kevin McCormack, Bill Brenner 9:15.37. Broke the existing record of 9:20.38 set by Ventura Masters (Jim McConica, Glenn Gruber, Hubie Kerns, Michael Blatt) 2012.
Mixed 400 freestyle relay: Jack Groselle, Laura Groselle, Nancy Kryka, Bob Couch 4:24.45. Broke the existing record of 4:28.01 set by New England Masters (Daniel Rogacki, Tracey Grilli, Jacki Hirsty, Greg Shaw) 2012
