The big winners over the first three sessions of the Prague Cup were Czech Republic National team members Simona Baumrtova and Petra Chocova.
Baumrtova, a backstroke specialist, stepped outside of her comfort zone winning the women’s 100 butterfly in a time of 1:01.52 and the 100 freestyle in a time of 56.52. She was challenged in the 100 freestyle by Anna Kolarova who posted a time of 56.70.
Chocova cut it event closer in her win in the 50 butterfly tying Lucy Uiberreitter with a winning time of 27.76. She also took the women’s 50 breaststroke in a time of 31.35. Her time in the breaststroke is a season’s best and ranks her 20th in the world.
South African Giulio Zorzi also accomplished the feat of making it into the world’s top 20 in the 50 breaststroke by putting up a season’s best in the prelims swimming a 27.73, which ties him with Mark Tully of Great Britain and Francesco Di Lecce for the 19th place position in the world. Zorzi won the event in a time of 27.91.
