Scott Leightman named Director, PR & Communications for USA Swimming

Scott Leightman, a 20-year public relations professional with extensive experience in the sports industry, was named USA Swimming’s Director, PR & Communications, the National Governing Body announced today.

Leightman will oversee USA Swimming’s public relations and communications efforts, while managing the NGB’s four-member communications team and its day-to-day operations. He will serve as the organization’s primary spokesperson.

“Scott possesses a wealth of experience in the sports industry, and we look forward to adding his expertise to our team at USA Swimming,” USA Swimming Chief Marketing Officer Matt Farrell said. “He is a talented communicator and will play a key role in the leadership of our organization.”

“Boasting progressive leadership and passionate participants, USA Swimming has an unwavering commitment to grow the sport both at the grassroots and National Team level,” Leightman said. “Alongside a talented team, I look forward to showcasing the fun and life lessons that swimming promotes.”

Leightman joins USA Swimming after most recently serving as public relations director at Buffalo Communications, where he managed 10 clients for the global golf and lifestyle agency since 2011.

Previously, Leightman was Director of Public Relations at TaylorMade-adidas Golf from 2007-09 after serving as Vice President of Public Relations with the Charlotte Bobcats from 2003-06 and Director of Basketball Communications with the Phoenix Suns from 1998-2003.

Prior to making the jump to the NBA, Leightman worked in the sports information offices at La Salle University and Bloomsburg University. He graduated from Ithaca (N.Y.) College with a degree in sports communication.
