12-year old Vinny Marciano has taken a page out of Michael Andrew’s playbook and broken his 3rd National Age Group Record of the week at the 2014 NASA Showcase Classic.
Marciano swam a 51.40 to take the National Age Group Record back from Destin Lasco by nine-tenths of a second. Lasco was a 52.32 in March on a weekend where he and Marciano, at different meets, traded records back and forth for a few days.
After that weekend, it looked like Lasco was going to come out ahead on this budding rivalry (they live in the same state, but unfortunately are not in the same LSC). After this weekend, however, Marciano has wrested back firm control of at least the two shorter backstroke records. He broke the 50 backstroke record for 11-12’s on Thursday, and also took down the 50 free record on Wednesday.
Marciano’s best time coming into this meet was a 52.47. Marciano swims for the Morris County Swim Club in New Jersey.

I practice with Vinny so I can tell you a few things
Practices are around 5,000 meters
we attatch bars to the lane lines past the flags to work on underwaters
a common set we do is (SCM):
5,4,3,2,1X 100 freestyle, the interval gets easier and the swimming gets faster as the set progresses with the last 100 off the blocks for time
another set we commonly do is:
16X25, 8X50, 6X75, 4X100 at 400 freestyle pace, then a all-out 400 for time.

Thank you for your info about Vinny. I cannot believe his practices are around 5000 meters every day! My son practices are around 2700 meters in his swimming club….. He just turn to 12, his 50 yard free is 24.00. He has no way to do extra practice because swimming club practice time only has 2-2.5 hours. How tall is Vinny? I guess he is a tall boy.

Unreal. This 12 year old could win some high school state championships right now. That time would have consistently placed second here in Missouri the past few years.

I knew he would break that record this week. He has shown an amazing speed since she start of the meet. But I didn’t expect a sub 52!

But it’s perhaps not so surprising. He almost broke recently the minute barrier in the 100 back in long course.

Fun fact, marciano means martian in spanish. Funny, because vinny’s swims are “out of this world”! I’ll show myself out
I didn’t think we would ever see a 12 year old go 51 in the 100 back. This is absolutely unreal.
lol, the 13-14 NJ swimming record is 51.7, Vinny is already under that.
Vinny’s still got the 200 free, 50 fly, and could possibly lead of the 4X100 free relay and so far has gone best times in every event except the 200 back
