High school senior Nate DaCruz from the Tide Swim Team and Frank Cox High School in Virginia has committed to Queens University, giving the Division II top-10 team their second commitment of the spring semester.
DaCruz is a middle-distance swimmer and a backstroker; his yards bests include a 1:39.51 in the 200 free, a 50.07 in the 100 back, and a 1:51.01 in the 200 IM.
All of those times put him in position to not only have an immediate impact upon Queens’ conference championship hopes, but their NCAA Championship chances with some modest improvements. This program has a lot of great talent, but they’re still a relatively new program as compared to a team like Drury, who have built up an impressive level of depth with decades of dominance.
That effect was shown at the Bluegrass Mountain Championships last week, where Wingate won both titles despite some great individual swims from Queens snaring a lot of headlines.
Among the other members of the class of 2014 who will have a big impact immediately include Nick Arakelian and Indiana transfer Austin Sanders.
