Clarkesville, Georgia-based McKenzie Coan, a paralympian and American record-holder, has committed to Loyola University in Maryland, which has become a hub for high-level paralympics swimmers recently.
Coan finished 6th in the 400 free at the 2012 Paralympics Games, and also holds two American records in short-course meters: the 400 free and 100 IM for class S9.
She will join Chicago’s Alyssa Giamalas, another paralympian, who also committed to Loyola about a month ago. The duo will train under Loyola coach Brian Loeffler, who has coached a huge stable of great Paralympic athletes over the course of his career and was honored last fall with the Jimi Flowers Disability Coach of the Year award.
I have had the pleasure to watch this young lady grown up. Not only is she a phenomenal athlete but she is extremely smart and is a wonderful role model to my children. She is going to accomplish great things. Loyola is so lucky to be getting her. Best of luck to her in all things she wishes to pursue.
