Katie Ledecky wasn’t the only record setting performance at the D.C. Metro Championships tonight. Carsten Vissering, a junior from Georgetown Preparatory, set a new independent high school record in the 100 breaststroke tonight at finals.
Vissering finished at 53.49 (25.40/28.09) to break Patrick Fowler’s 1998 record of 53.66. Steven Stumph holds the National high school (and public HS) record at 53.39, set in May 2013.
Yesterday at prelims, Vissering was the top seed at 54.83.
And this wasn’t his only event win of the night. He claimed the 200 IM in 1:48.10. Plus he was on Georgetown’s winning 200 medley relay earlier in the night, splitting 24.25 on the breaststroke leg. And split 46.34 on the 400 freestyle relay that also won a Metro title.
All four swims of the night for him were new D.C. Metro Championship meet records.
Almost a new national high shool record for Carsten Vissering!
So close!
53.49 is a great performance, even still more after a 200 IM.
He will break it next year.
Put it at a very high level if you want to see it last for a long time because you have breaststroke young phenoms who will attack it in the next years.
Like Reece Whitley or Ethan Dang.
Fortunately for that record, Michael Andrew will not be a threat. He’s pro.
