Halsall British Aquatic’s Olympic Athlete Of The Year

It was announced today that Fran Halsall has won the British Aquatic Athlete of the Year, which is decided upon by the British Olympic Association. Halsall is one of 35 athletes across 31 Olympic sports to receive this annual honour.

“I’m delighted to have been given this award and want to thank everyone who has supported me throughout the year,” said Halsall. “2013 has been good, but I’m really looking forwards to a great 2014 with the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.”

After having a disappointing Olympics in 2012 where she failed to medal in the 50 and 100 freestyle along with missing the final in the 100 butterfly, Halsall returned to the pool determined have a successful 2013 season, which she accomplished. Halsall won Britain’s only medal at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona winning the bronze in the 50 freestyle posting a time of 24.30.

Halsall also finished the season ranking the world’s top ten in the 50 butterfly and freestyle LCM and in the 50 and 100 freestyle and 50 butterfly SCM.

LCM

  • 3rd – 50 freestyle – 24.30
  • 4th – 50 butterfly – 25.69

SCM

  • 7th – 50 freestyle – 23.91
  • 8th – 100 freestyle – 52.32
  • 9th – 50 butterfly 25.59
