14 year old Thomas McMillan swam to a new national age group (NAG) record in the boys 100 backstroke on night 2 of Futures in Minneapolis. McMillan swam to a 56.36.
McMillan who swims for St Charles Swim Team out of Illinois broke the previous record that stood at a 56.62 set by Josh Zuchowski back in 2019.

The difference maker was the first 50 here as McMillan was out 0.29 seconds faster.
The swim marks McMillan’s first NAG record. He notably dropped over three seconds off his personal best as he came into the meet with a lifetime best of a 59.30 that he swam in July 2023. He already set a best time in prelims with a 57.50 before going even faster in finals to finish 3rd overall.
With McMillan aging up to the 15-16 age group soon, his time from today would already sit at #46 in the 15-16 age group all-time. That NAG record stands at a 53.27 which Daniel Diehl swam in 2022.
Zuchowski has notably gone on to represent the US at Junior Pan Pacs and now swims at Stanford where he qualified for NCAAs this past season in both backstroke events.
Was not expecting him to break this record with where his short course pb is but pretty cool. Also his time is also faster than the 15-16 IL state record which was set by Braden Capen earlier today
Imagine dropping :03 seconds and setting a NAG record. So cool.
Hopefully the kid doesn’t end up falling off like Zuchowski

The depth definitely makes it fast but the wall made of sticks and mud is really difficult to push off of, so it’s all a wash.
