The 2024 Swimming West Australia Short Course Qualifying Meet 2 wrapped up over the weekend with Lucas Fackerell firing off another impressive performance.

After hacking over 10 seconds off his previous personal best in the 400m free, Junior Pan Pacific Championships-bound Fackerell made some noise in the 200m free.

16-year-old Fackerell of Breakers stopped the clock in a time of 1:47.87 to take the men’s 14&O 200m free race. The teen opened in 52.42 and closed in 55.45 to get the job done, getting under the 1:50 barrier for the first time ever in the process.

Entering this competition, Fackerell’s career-quickest result rested at the 1:52.61 notched at last year’s Short Course State Championships.

Fackerell now ranks as the 8th-swiftest Aussie 16-year-old performer in history.

Additionally, Fackerell tried the 1500m on for size, establishing another personal best en route to topping the podium. Fackerell clocked 15:31.71, obliterating his previous PB of 15:44.55 logged last August.

Lucas Fackerell‘s Results

  • 400m free – gold, 3:49.50
  • 200m free – gold, 1:47.87
  • 1500m free – gold, 15:31.71

The Junior Pan Pacific Championships are taking place August 21st – August 24th in Canberra.

Another swim from last weekend that I thought was very impressive was from barely 15 yo Lukas Dunn who went 54.50 in the 100 fly at NSW SC Metro Champs for #3 all-time. He already showed earlier in the year at age champs that he’s one to watch out for.

Earlier in the month 15 yo Sienna Toohey was in action at NSW SC Country Champs and went times ranked #1 all-time in both the 50 (30.94) and 100 breast (1:06.79).
