Virginia Swimming and Diving Signs 13

Virginia head swimming and diving coach Augie Busch announced Monday (Dec. 9) that 13 student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to join the Cavalier program in the fall of 2014.

The women’s group includes Caitlin Cooper, Jessica Gvozdas, Jennifer Marrkand, Emily Langworthy, Salem Peacock, Laine Reed, Dina Rommel and Cece Williams, while Jake Bowtell, Luke Georgiadis, Nicholas Magana, Anthony Marcantonio and Henrik Pohlmann will be joining the men’s program.

“I’m very excited about the future of our program with this signing class,” Busch said. “Obviously, with our coaching staff not being in place until August, we were a little late in initiating contact and conversation with prospects. In light of that, I think we did a great job making up for lost ground and I have to give credit to (assistant coach) Sam (Busch) for his efforts to ensure the recruiting transition was as seamless as possible.

“Most importantly, each of the signees are great students and possess team-first attitudes. I cannot wait to bring them to Grounds and begin working with them.”

Women

“Our women’s signing class, I feel, is big and high in quality,” Busch said. “Collectively, they fill a lot of important holes on our team. We will get a tremendous boost in all freestyle distances and our relays should get significantly better as well.”

These recruits will continue to build on the foundation that Mark built. I think people will be shocked to see what this team does the remainder of this season. Even with the men down by two, they will continue to work hard to improve. Energy on deck is contagious from what I know. Good job on this recruiting class, Augie.
