At Olympic training camp in France, Ariarne Titmus spoke with the media about a myriad of topics heading into the Paris Games. Titmus is coming to Paris as the defending Olympic champion in both the 200 and 400 freestyles, both of which she holds the world record in and #1 rank worldwide this season.
Titmus also won a silver medal in the 800 free at the last Olympics and looks to put her best foot forward again in that race, saying that her training has indicated better results than what she’s been able to post.
Obligatory Dad joke: “I’m going to put my best foot forward”. She’s going to race it backwards!!?
Haha! Spoken like a true Aussie! We have such good coffee in virtually every cafe in Australia that it is such a shock to go overseas and realise how bad they make it that we have to resort to a pod machine!
in France they make good coffee , but it depends where u go . Same same as everywhere in the world
Because Titmus is seeded third she should be in the final heat alongside Ledecky and will know what times the previous heats have gone. Should make it easier to get a centre lane.
They still swim it twice
She lost to Bingjie last year on purpose to set herself up for Paris. Arnie’s playing 4D chess
When do they release the heats for the swimming next week? Will interesting to see the different match ups especially in the long distance events.
If she lands a lane next to Ledecky going into the final I back Titmus if not it’ll be a tougher battle for her. This is the first year I’ve felt Titmus could be a real threat to Ledecky in the 800. She seems the most confident about an 800 then ever before she’s not to be underestimated this time. It’s like the 400 fs in 2019 Ledecky’s going in as the favourite but an upset is lurking 👀
She also get a lane next to Li Bingjie last year and lost the battle for second.
Rooting for KL all the way, but I fear you may be right.
800 is late in the program and that why I continue to see KL as the favorite. If it were day 1 I’d think AR might be so.
Just think KL will have more left in the tank given her distance prowess.
She’s a class act and a fierce competitor. Really appreciate that interview.
She’s certainly the favorite in the 2free and 4free, but she will be pushed to the limit in both, I believe.
She is not the fav in the 800, but I do suspect she will swim a best time in Paris. My gut tells me the 800 will be more of a battle than many are willing to admit.
I wish I could see them race a 600. Ledecky has a solid advantage in the 800 and Titmus has a better 400, but I feel like that would be a good meeting point.
I’d like to see Titmus adopt similar tactics to her 400 in Tokyo. For this she’ll need to ensure she has a lane next to Ledecky.
When do they release the heats for the swimming next week? Will interesting to see the different match ups especially in the long distance events.I’m hoping you might know?
