Beijing Day 1 Start Lists ‘Business As Usual’

The start lists have been posted for day 1 of the 2013 FINA World Cup Series in Beijing, China.

See them all in a single PDF document here.

The meet will begin in a few hours with Wednesday’s prelims session, and the format is ever-so-slightly tweaked for this meet. Notably, there will be no prelims for the mixed medley relays (presumably, the onslaught of local Japanese teams into that event has subsided drastically).

The Americans will again be well-represented. Tom Shields will swim just two events, the 50 fly and the 100 back, while Anthony Ervin will swim only the 100 free. They will be joined by the official USA Swimming Junior World Cup Team, though the group that was in Tokyo from the west coast (an independent group of mostly Californians) don’t appear on this week’s start lists.

In general, not much has changed from the previous meet. China, the host country, has a solid contingent, including names like Yiwen Shao, Yun He, and Fuanhui Yu, but most of the stars are absent, and they aren’t getting the kind of mass participation that we saw in Japan from their home-grown products. Most of those Japanese swimmers haven’t followed the circuit to its last meet.

This will be the last meet of the series, meaning that it has the most prize money to hand out.

Eastin not swimming bad but some trouble in 400 Im in Tokyo, 3rd behind Brooke Z and R Mann among Americans, tough competition among younger Americans.

And off topic but still an interesting news.
We waited for the Leveaux decision about his future club.
And finally, Leveaux has made Leveaux.
He decides to skip the season.
He will not swim next year to refresh mentally.
He only has the fire for the olympic games.
It’s still not sure he will swim again.
But it’s likely Rio is in his mind.
Hopefully, he will not take 20 pounds after one year off. 🙂

I don’t know, Bobo… he seems to deny it. From his Twitter: ‘Hey @lequipe Qd est ce que je suis venu? pour dire “dans vos colonnes” ? … ‘

Good races to watch in finals.
Interesting to watch Chad le Clos in the 100 free.
Cate Campbell and Daniel Gyurta were very fast in Singapore. They can swim close to the world records.
As expected, much better meet for the US junior team, at least after the prelims.
It looks like they now adapt to the big jet lag they have endured to go to Asia.
Becca Mann in the 800 free final.
Curtis Ogren, Jay Litherland and Corey Okubo in the 400 IM final.
Ella Eastin and Quinn Carrozza in the 200 free final.
Ella Eastin in the 100 fly final.
Hannah Weiss in the 50 back final.

Correction. Campbell and Gyurta were crazy fast last weekend in Tokyo.

Hmm, I would have to say he is just being the goofy surfer dude from Huntington Beach I know so well. Kinda of like, “Well, I guess I will just go take a plunge and set another American Record.” All in a days work.
