When is the NCAA going to stop allowing coaches like Durden to ruin collegiate swimming by using their schools as platforms for their pro training. Marchand applied to many school and wanted to complete his education here. Many other foreign swimmers are rightfully taking advantage of getting an great education while swimming. Cal, on the other hand, seems to be focusing on recruiting 22 yr olds to do a certificate program with no intention of being scholar-athletes. Tomas, Henveux, etc. Shame on you, Coach Durden. I always thought you were better than that as a coach – and not just about recruiting top swimmers to over developing scholar athletes. These guys swim in 2 dual meets, then NCAAs, then are… Read more »

It’s that midseason update article I think where they summarize the points by the current standings. But idk I could be wrong.

Will only address the one “International” Sink or Swim. It is quite plausible that Peaty can/could win gold in Doha but the question is framed as “Will he ?”. Given the quality of his opposition and his performance levels to date; I have to lean “Sink”.

Yeah.

People always assume that it’s easy to make a comeback and swimmers will get to their previous peak in no time.

But stats show that such occurrence is extremely rare.

Of course nobody would consider Phelps’ comeback at or near his “peak” but would he be the most successful story in recent times?

I think Lazor (Grothe too maybe) retired after college only to come back and make the Olympics, but I don’t think I count that in this discussion.

ISL concerns notwithstanding, if Mewen Tomac is four years removed from high school and you have a five-year eligibility clock in Division 1 starting from the time you graduate, how would he have more than one year of eligibility remaining?
