Daniel Wiffen gave a great show to the crowd present in the Otopeni pool where he swam the new World Record of the 800 freestyle. After an epic week for him and for all the Irish sport Wiffen talked to SwimSwam about his races at the SC European Championships. The Irish rising star spoke about his love of sharing his life on Youtube and the emotion of beating a WR who belonged to his idol Grant Hackett.

Distance events have been so strong the last few years. Can’t wait to see these races in Paris =)

They really have. I can’t think of any other events that have so many swimmers who could win. Women’s 400 free is pretty awesome too. So excited for Paris.

Breaking the oldest WR in swimming didn’t create nowhere hype as much as a 16 yo boy breaking SCY NAG record lol.

Yea man i gotta agree with you, that Michael Phelps guy was such a noob, he couldn’t figure out LCM for the life of him. And if only Caeleb Dressel could have won and set records at the Olympics like he did at NCAAs. I bet Caeleb would have been capable of at least 3 SCM world records if he had only understood it. Oh wait….
And just so you know, there is a reason that Summer Love’s statement is true. In 5 years the name wiffen and this swim will be all but forgotten. At the young age of 16 Thomas Heilman is proving that he is capable of being the greatest swimmer since Phelps (yup the same… Read more »

in regards to your last sentence, Wiffen placed 4th at 2023 Worlds in what was the #1 or #2 fastest 800 heat in History where he broke a European record, while Heilman placed 4th in a heat that will not likely go down as being historically relevant

But without commentary, they objectively both placed 4th.
