The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team will host its only home meet of the fall semester against Nebraska on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Arkansas Natatorium. The team is coming off its 12th consecutive dual meet win at LSU.
The Razorbacks won 13 of 16 events during their first SEC dual meet against LSU on Oct. 19. These event wins included NCAA ‘B’ cut times for junior Nikki Daniels (Wichita, Kan.), in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke and for junior Julia Banach (Eilat, Israel), in the 200 breaststroke. Senior diver Kesha Naylor (Saskatchewan, Canada), posted an NCAA zone qualifying score of 284.10 on the 1-meter board. The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Anna Mayfield (San Antonio, Texas), Daniels, junior Susanna White (Forest, Va.), and sophomore Nina Drolc (Velenje, Slovenia), finished first in 1:40.75, recording the fifth-best time in Arkansas history.
On Oct. 4, the Razorbacks placed first at the North Texas Relay Invitational in Southlake, Texas, beating out North Texas, Southern Methodist and Houston. The team collected nine of 10 wins for 414 total points. The Razorbacks also placed first in a dual meet against North Texas on Oct. 5, in Denton, Texas. The team won 14 of 16 events for a final point total of 207-91.
Arkansas and Nebraska have met 11 times in history, beginning in the 1983-84 season. The Razorbacks will be seeking their fifth dual meet win over the Huskers. The teams most recently met in 2006 when Nebraska defeated Arkansas 168-132 in Lincoln, Neb.
The dual meet against Arkansas will be Nebraska’s first on the road this season. In their season opener, the Huskers tied the Iowa State Cyclones 150-150. Last season, Nebraska finished the season with a 12-3 dual meet record, a school record for most wins, and placed ninth at the Big Ten Championships.
Admission is free to the only meet hosted by Arkansas this semester and the first 100 fans will receive a special breast cancer awareness t-shirt. Fans also can follow the action Saturday via live blogging, live streaming and live tweeting.
