Berke Saka, Carles Coll-Marti & Kim Herkle Named ACC Swimmers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – In the first set of weekly honors for the 2023 season, Georgia Tech’s Berke Saka and Virginia Tech’s Carles Coll Marti were named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Men’s Swimmer of the Week and the Yellow Jackets’ Max Fowler was selected Men’s Diver of the Week. Louisville swept the women’s awards with Kim Herkle earning Swimmer of the Week and Else Praasterink garnering Diver of the Week laurels.

ACC MEN’S CO-SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK
Berke Saka, Georgia Tech, Jr., Istanbul, Turkey
Saka earned three first-place finishes at the Seminole Invitational as the Yellow Jackets finished second at the FSU Fall Classic. The junior took home a top finish in the 200 back (1:47.24) and the 200 IM (1:48.70), along with a win in the 400 free relay (2:58.43). Saka also finished second in the 200 medley relay (1:29.36), and third in the 100 back (48.33) and 400 medley relay (3:18.69). The 400 free relay time is fifth in the nation and both his 200 back and 200 IM times are No. 9 in the nation.

Carles Coll Marti, Virginia Tech, Sr., Catalonia, Spain
Coll Marti began his season with three first-place finishes as Virginia Tech defeated George Washington, 169-120. After starting the meet off with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:29.57), he earned wins in the 100 breast (54.23) and 200 breast (1:59.06). His time in both the 100 and 200 breast are third in the nation.

ACC WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Kim Herkle, Louisville, Jr., Stuttgart, Germany
Herkle recorded four first-place finishes to help Louisville win every event to sweep Xavier in its season-opening meet. The Stuttgart, Germany, native took first in the 200 IM (2:02.91), the 100 breast (1:02.22) and the 200 breast (2:13.24) and swam the breaststroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay (1:41.80). Her time in the 200 breast is ranked second in the nation and a NCAA B-cut, her 100 breast time is ranked No. 5 in the nation and her time in the 200 IM is ninth in the nation. The 200 Medley Relay time is No. 7 in the nation.

ACC MEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK
Max Fowler, Georgia Tech, Fr., Burke, Virginia
Fowler made his collegiate debut at the FSU Fall Classic, sweeping both diving events. The freshman took home first place in the 1-meter with a 326.00 and in the 3-meter with a 375.10, both zone qualifying scores.

ACC WOMEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK
Else Praasterink, Louisville, Jr., Eindhoven, Netherlands

Praasterink took home two first-place finishes for the Cards in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives as Louisville defeated Xavier, 189-69. The junior posted zone qualifying scores on both boards with a 292.73 on the 1-meter and a 289.63 on the 3-meter.
