Dominique Bouchard Joins The Oakville Aquatic Club

One of Canada’s top backstrokers will be joining an already strong group of athletes at the Oakville Aquatic Club. Head Coach Sean Baker has told SwimSwam that Dominique Bouchard, who currently ranks 20th in the world in the 200 backstroke, has joined his team.

Bouchard, who is originally from North Bay, Ontario, has spent the last four years competing for and training at the University of Missouri where she graduated in 2013 as the most decorated Tiger in team history. During her career she earned four All-American first team accolades and four honourable mentions, she also received a placing on the 2013 Winter SEC Academic Honour Roll.

At last year’s NCAA Championships Bouchard placed second in the 200 backstroke and seventh in the 100 backstroke, she is also currently ranked 20th in the world in the 200 backstroke long course having posted a 2:09.97 at the US Open in Irvine. That time places her third in the Canadian pecking order behind World Championships medalist Hilary Caldwell (2:06.80) and Sinead Russell (2:09.24).

The Oakville Aquatic Club has had a great deal of success under Baker’s leadership most recently winning the Canadian Summer National Championships.

Suprising move. I would have thought that she would go to the National Centre in Toronto, under Ben Titley, and train with swimmers her own age.
